Nighttime Utility Relocation Work on Pinetree Way
Between Lincoln Avenue and Northern Avenue

As part of construction of the future Lincoln Station for the Evergreen Line, there will be nighttime utility relocation work on Pinetree Way between Lincoln Avenue and Northern Avenue starting November 23 and continuing for approximately two weeks.

WHAT TO EXPECT:
• This work will take place at night from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Nighttime work is required due to high volumes of daytime traffic on Pinetree Way.

• While this work is underway, there will be southbound and northbound lane closures on Pinetree Way.

• When lane closures are in effect, please watch for construction signs, proceed with caution and follow traffic control personnel who will assist with directing traffic.

• Access to Henderson Place from Pinetree Way northbound will be temporarily unavailable. Business access signs will be installed so that alternate entrances to businesses are clearly marked.

• Nighttime noise related to saw-cutting and the use of heavy machinery should be expected as part of this work. Every effort will be made to complete activities considered noisier earlier in the evening to minimize disruptions.

• For the safety of all pedestrians, please follow posted detour signs and instructions of traffic control personnel.

• To ensure the safety of transit users, the bus stop on the east side of Pinetree Way, just north of Lincoln Avenue, will be shifted slightly south away from active construction.

Temporary Nighttime Column Construction: Barnet Highway at Pinetree Way

Foundation and column construction for the elevated guideway adjacent to Pinetree Way is ongoing and will continue until the summer of 2014.

Crews are currently working on the column that is in the northwest quadrant of the intersection of Barnet Highway and Pinetree Way/Lougheed Highway (adjacent to the Coquitlam Centre parking lot area). Due to the proximity of the column to traffic on Barnet Highway, some nighttime work at this location is required.

WHAT TO EXPECT

  • Starting the week of June 16 and continuing for approximately three weeks, crews will be drilling shafts, installing rebar cages and pouring concrete between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.
  • Temporary nighttime lane closures of Barnet Highway westbound will be required as part of this work.
  • Nearby business owners and residents can expect construction-related noise, including the use of heavy machinery.
  • Access to businesses will be maintained at all times. Business access signs will be installed so that entrances to businesses are clearly marked.
  • For the safety of all pedestrians, drivers are asked to watch for construction signs and traffic control personnel, drive with caution and obey posted construction speed limits while construction is underway.

The Evergreen Line elevated guideway generally consists of building a substructure (foundations and columns) and a superstructure (elevated guideway), followed by trackwork and systems installation. Construction of the substructure involves a variety of techniques, such as pile driving, drilling shafts or excavating to construct foundations, then forming and pouring concrete columns to support the superstructure.

Once construction of the guideway foundations and columns on Pinetree Way is complete, crews will begin construction of the elevated guideway superstructure using the launching truss. The launching truss is used to lift segments into place and then crews connect the segments together to form overhead guideway beams spanning from column to column.

The same launching truss that is being used to construct the elevated guideway on North Road will be used on Pinetree Way. When it is finished on North Road later this summer the launching truss will be dismantled and set-up again in the Coquitlam Central Station work area.

Once assembled, the truss will move north installing the elevated guideway between Coquitlam Central Station and Lafarge Lake-Douglas station. Construction of the elevated guideway will be ongoing until the spring of 2015.

CONSTRUCTION AND TRAFFIC BULLETIN

Construction on Pinetree Way – Glen Drive and Northern Avenue

As part of elevated guideway construction, crews will begin work on May 12 to remove concrete median barrier and existing curb on Pinetree Way between Glen Drive and Northern Avenue. This will create work space for crews to construct a guideway column in between the two northbound lanes in the coming months for the future Evergreen Line.

WHAT TO EXPECT

·        This work will take place during the day from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. for approximately 10 days within a one month period.

·        Noise related to saw-cutting and the use of heavy machinery should be expected.

·        Temporary lane closures will be in effect on Pinetree Way between Glen Drive and Northern Avenue while this work is underway. Two lanes of through traffic will be maintained for both southbound and northbound traffic and all movements at these intersections will be maintained.

·        During the column construction, drivers travelling on Pinetree Way will notice that the two northbound lanes will be split around the work zone. This traffic pattern change allows crews to accomplish the structural foundation work required for the column in the middle of the roadway during the daytime.

·        Please be reminded that pedestrian detours will also be in place, including at the northwest quadrant of Pinetree Way and Northern Avenue. Pedestrians are reminded to watch for pedestrian wayfinding signs. Diagrams are posted at various locations in the area to show open and closed pedestrian routes. Information is also available on our website.

Drivers are asked to watch for construction signs and traffic control personnel, drive with caution and obey posted construction speed limits. A key goal of the Evergreen Line Rapid Transit Project is to minimize construction-related disruption and maximize traffic flow and predictability during construction activities.

Evergreen Line Construction Detours Update

Please be advised that due to the construction for the Evergreen Line will be closing the North and West Crosswalk at the Barnet Hwy and Lougheed Hwy intersection starting Tuesday April 22, 2014 after the morning rush.

To accommodate this inconvenience please use these tips to navigate around Coquitlam Centre for your daily commute:

Red - Closed

Blue - Open

  • Please use the new pedestrian crosswalk on Barnet Highway to get to the northwest side of the intersection.
  • As a result of the Lincoln Street exit closure, we encourage patrons to exit Coquitlam Centre via High Street, turning right on Glen Drive, as this will reduce the congestion on Northern Avenue, as noted in the map below.

We thank our customers and appreciate your patience and understanding during the building of the Evergreen Line.

Pinetree Way Pedestrians Detour During Evergreen Line Construction

Construction of the Evergreen Line is progressing along Pinetree Way in Coquitlam. For the safety of pedestrians, sidewalk closures and detours will be implemented next to active construction sites on Pinetree Way between the Coquitlam transit exchange and Town Centre Boulevard. For a detailed map showing all closed sections of sidewalk and the detour routes, please click on the title of this post.

These closures and detours will be place until the spring of 2015. Sidewalks will re-open following the construction of the columns and the elevated guideway along Pinetree Way.

In mid-April, the sidewalk on the west side of Pinetree Way/ Lougheed Highway will be closed. A new pedestrian crosswalk across Barnet Highway, west of Pinetree Way/ Lougheed Highway, will open. Crews will be building columns and foundations on the west side of the Barnet Highway and Pinetree Way/ Lougheed Highway intersection. The new pedestrian crossing on Barnet Highway between Johnson Street/ Mariner Way and Pinetree Way/ Lougheed Highway will be a pedestrian activated signal. This signal will also be equipped with an audible feature.

The following closures adjacent to Pinetree Way will be in effect while construction is underway:

  • The north sidewalk on Lincoln Avenue west of Pinetree way.
  • The sidewalk on the northwest corner of Pinetree Way and Northern Avenue.
  • A Pedestrian detour will also be implemented on the east side of Pinetree Way between Obelisk Way and Glen Drive. Pedestrians will be detoured slightly east to a new pedestrian walkway.
  • The sidewalk on the east side of Pinetree Way between Glen Drive and Town Centre Boulevard will remain closed while crews are constructing foundations and columns for the elevated guideway.
  • The pedestrian path on the west side of Pinetree Way between Princess Crescent and Town Centre Boulevard.

For the safety of all pedestrians, please follow traffic control personnel and posted signs while construction is underway.

More detailed information about these pedestrian detours along Pinetree Way is available on the Evergreen Line Project website: www.evergreenline.gov.bc.ca.
