To me, more than anything else, summer means colour! So say goodbye to muted tones, at least until fall, and bring out bright, bold, beautiful colours. A major trend for this season is Day-Glo, more commonly known as fluorescent colouring. Attempting to integrate fluorescents into ones wardrobe can be intimidating. Here are a few tips to help brighten up your summer style
For the Novice – Try out this look by wearing fluorescents as an accent. A great way to be on trend without making too much of a statement is to start with an accessory. Select a fluorescent pair of shoes, a bracelet or earrings. Make the accessory your focus piece and build your outfit around it. The rest of your look should be toned down in order to highlight the fluorescent item.
For the Colour Confident – Skip the fluorescent accessories and go straight for the dress, top, skirt or shorts. It is best to choose a simple silhouette and complete the outfit with neutral tones. This electric pink Wilfred dress from Aritzia would look amazing with a pair of nude pumps.
For the Bold and Daring – Select more than one fluorescent item and pair them for the ultimate Day-Glo statement. Colour blocking with fluorescents makes for a very bold look. You can also mix and match different fluorescent accessories and clothing items.
Another great way to incorporate fluorescents into your summer look is with makeup. You can pick one colour and go for it or combine more than one to intensify your look. Think shocking pink lips, vibrant orange eye shadow and neon green nails (just not all at once!). This purple polish from Sephora is a great way to break into Day-Glo.
