My name is Cindy Gauthier and I am a Registered Holistic Nutritionist. I am a busy Mother of two beautiful little girls.
Here are some tips that you can incorporate into your daily life to try to get your little ones and the rest of your family to make healthy food choices….
First and foremost, the most important routine in our family is for us all to sit at the table together as a family and chit chat about our day. Proper manners at our dinner table is a must, such as always chewing our food properly and not talking with our mouth full.
I try to make dinnertime fun for the kids. I like to add a variety of color (a colorful plate full of vegetables add a variety of nutrients to meals) and shapes to their plates. My daughter loves dipping sauce with her vegetables (plain yoghurt, lemon & fresh dill with a pinch of honey is a great healthy dipping sauce).
Every week I write out a meal plan and write my weekly grocery list. This helps us save time, money and helps myself to make healthy choices for my family.
Every week I add a variety of different cuisines and get the kids to help out such as Mexican night we cook up bean burritos together with lot’s of colorful vegetables and the kids help out by building their own burrito’s.
I try to make sure my little ones eat every three hours. This will help to regulate their hunger and will give them energy. Healthy snacks include cut up apples, nuts (my daughter loves almonds, but may need to cut up depending on the age of your child due to choking), plain yogurt with a sprinkle of cinnamon, cheese cut into strips, vegetables with dipping sauce. I pre-cut vegetables and store them in the fridge for when the kids need a quick snack.
I hope this has helped some of you out!
