Oh No! It is raining again! Why do we always seem so shocked when Vancouver is dubbed the rainiest city in the world? But this aside, what do you do with the kids on these rainy days and how do you keep from completely losing your mind?
Here is a bag of tricks to get you out and busy with these toddler friendly ideas:
Running and Jumping at the Rec Centre – These programs have everything from open gym time with mats to run around on, and also include balls, ride in cars and wagons for added fun. This will burn out that crazy ball of energy you are trying to cage in one small room and may just lead to a nap in the afternoon.
Splish Splash at the Public Pool -! It’s time to run around, splash, scream, jump and pour water with other kids. This is always a fun way to meet up with other moms and even the hubby on a rainy day or evening. Local moms should check out free swims once a month at the Rec Centre and the Ducky Swim at Hyde Creek in Port Moody.
Puddle Jumping – Time to put on that Muddy Buddy Rain Suit and slip on those rubber boots. It is time for you and your little one to get outside and enjoy the rain. You will be laughing and jumping your self as you chase each other! Why not take a beach ball along too and learn all about floating and kicking!
A Day of Shopping – I know you are thinking that this is your worst nightmare! But keep in mind that the mall is filled with themed push carts shaped like a fire-truck, toy stores with train tables set-up and of course free play areas. Many malls even host story times events, Mom and Babe Fitness Classes and activities for preschool-aged children mid-week. Check out Coquitlam Centre for some fantastic programs. And don’t forget to stop at the smoothie shop for a treat for both mom and babe!
Lil’ Page Turners - Many local libraries feature story times and activities. Be sure to check your local schedule for story times for both infants, toddlers and preschoolers.
Welcome to the Jungle – The Tri-Cities offers a great selection of private jungle gyms. There is everything from a coffee house/playground like KinderCafe, to the craziness of Koko’s and Jungle Jac’s. You can also find a few evening drop-ins Programs like Gymboree or Kerrigan Gymnastics.
Strong Start – These elementary school programs are set-up for little ones to prepare for school. The secret for moms to know is that there is painting and water table fun where the mess isn’t in your home, play dough and of course snacks, all for free! Read More…
Now you can have your toddler burn off some energy, and avoid sitting at home having your living room destroyed.
