Day-Glo - Our final blog post from Carly Yack!

To me, more than anything else, summer means colour! So say goodbye to muted tones, at least until fall, and bring out bright, bold, beautiful colours. A major trend for this season is Day-Glo, more commonly known as fluorescent colouring. Attempting to integrate fluorescents into ones wardrobe can be intimidating. Here are a few tips to help brighten up your summer style

LOCO FOR PRINTS with Heidi Hofstad!

Summer in the city is still missing the mark on Cancun-like temperatures. That hasn’t stopped wardrobes from getting salted and limed with Aztec prints worthy of a Mexican holiday.
These prints are artsy, meshing multiple geometrical patterns and colours; as far from neutral as a piñata. Gracing the glossy July cover of Cosmopolitan, Rihanna makes a run for the trend, bordering on cool perfection.

It's In The Bag - with Rebecca Tay

Now that all the summer sales are underway, the question in my mind has shifted from “which of these should I get” to “which of these should I get today”? And while I could bore you with my picks of the discounted jeans, dresses, shorts, and tanks I’ve deemed worthy of my credit card, I’ve decided to spare you by presenting just a selection: handbags!

Beautify for Summer Fun with Sunny Shum

Yesterday was the first official day of summer which means you need to go out and properly stock up on some new beauty products for fun in the sun.
Spending time in the sun can be damaging to your hair so you have to make sure you condition it frequently. I like Phytocitrus’s Restructuring Hair Mask. This rich treatment delivers a blend of citrus fruits and proteins that effectively restructure the hair fiber, and boost radiance. When used daily, it keeps your hair color bright, vibrant, and illuminated with shine.

Summer’s Sweetest Scents? Catherine Dunwoody Shares Hers!

Your beauty routine downshifts into low-gear (read: lighter, fresher) during the hot summer months, and so should your fragrance. Swapped your foundation for a light, tinted moisturizer this month? Well done, lady. But wearing winter’s scent today quickly moves from intoxicating (worn in January) to nauseating (worn in June) so lighten up already, would ya? You know I say that with love….

How to get the Runway Look for Less with Carly Yack

This season you don’t have to spend a fortune to get the look designers are showcasing on the runway. I recommend finding a few key trends to build your wardrobe around. If you can afford it, now is the time to make some judicious investment purchases. These should be pieces you can see yourself wearing for seasons to come. If you can’t afford it, I would suggest avoiding low quality imitations or knockoffs. There are better ways to get the overall look.

VROOM VROOM - All you need to know about leather from Heidi Hofstad!

Leather isn't typically associated with summer, unless referring to ogling boys on motorcycles, while sipping refreshments patio side - vroom, vroom! But this year, revving up our closets is trending! The look is less about giving off the hardcore biker chick signal and more about incorporating seasonless and timeless leather pieces – that show off the legs – into wardrobes.

Get a Handle on your Handbags with Sunny Shum!

In my opinion, the most important accessory for a woman should be her
handbag. Next to her footwear it's the best place to invest in her wardrobe
and you can never have enough. With a simple switch of a handbag you can
make a drastic change in your look. Three must have shapes for summer 2011:
A cross body flap bag, a lady-like structured bag, and an over-sized clutch.

CATHERINE DUNWOODY’S EARNED HER STRIPES – HAVE YOU?

I’ve got it bad for stripes – always have, always will.
I’ve never bought into the ‘horizontal stripes aren’t flattering’ bit. Nor do I agree with that old-school adage that they ‘add pounds’ or ‘make your look shorter’. Rubbish. Nonsense. Pish-posh.
Summer and stripes go together like watermelon and crumbled feta (the ultimate summer salad) and I’ll take my stripes any which-way thanks – vertical or horizontal, chevron, wide & cabana-style,  or skinny in seersucker.
