Planting: • The onion, belongs to the family of the garlic and shallot.• These bulbs can be grown in almost any soil as long as it is well-drained and fertile.• Plant them with the pointy end up about 3 cm (1 in) deep and 15 to 20 cm (6 to 8 in) apart.• Water thoroughly after planting.Growing: • Weed regularly when plants start growing.• Water as needed during active growth periods, but allow the soil to become dry between watering.• All-purpose garden fertilizer applied at the beginning and middle of the growing season is effective.• Attention! When flowers appear, cut them! Otherwise the plant will divert energy from building up the bulb.Harvest: • When the leaves turn yellow and die, remove the bulbs from the ground.• To harvest, carefully lift the bulbs with a spade or a garden fork. Carefully brush off the soil and dry the plants for 2 to 3 weeks in a shaded area with good air circulation.• Once the bulbs are dry, you can store them. Remote any dirt and trim off any roots or leaves. Winterizing: • Bulbs should be stored in a cool 5 °C (40 °F), dark and dry place.• During the winter months you should check your stored bulbs regularly and promptly use any that show signs of sprouting.
