They have a flare to hold them in place in your ear. These saddle tunnels are or grade 23 titanium with PVD coating. This grade of steel is hypoallergenic because its low carbon vacuum melted. This process sucks out the nickel from the metal. Nickel is one of the most common causes of metal allergies. Please note: this process cannot remove all the nickel. As a result, a very small amount of people have reactions to 316LVM surgical steel. Additionally, the steel is available PVD with gold or rose gold. PVD is more durable and longer-lasting than traditional plating, but it can irritate metal allergies. These tunnels come in 00g - 1/2 of an inch. Please check the gauge to ensure they will fit your piercing. Titanium is both hypoallergenic and bio-compatible. This is why you'll often find it in medical implants. Blackline is titanium carbide as a PVD coating. This stands for Physical Vapour Deposition. This means titanium carbide is deposited onto the metal as a vapour. As a result, the titanium looks black. This coating does not affect the piece's hypoallergenic status.
