This is why you'll often find it in medical implants. Blackline is titanium carbide as a PVD coating. This stands for Physical Vapour Deposition. This means the titanium carbide is deposited onto the metal as a vapour. As a result, the titanium looks black. This coating does not affect the piece's hypoallergenic status. Anodization is how we get the rainbow colour. This is when you dip the titanium in an electrolyte solution and zap it until you get the colour you want. This process also does not affect the piece's hypoallergenic status. The yellow and rose gold options are ion plated. Ion plating is more durable and therefore longer lasting than traditional plating. However, this plating may irritate metal allergies. 316LVM surgical steel is hypoallergenic because it is low carbon vacuum melted. This process basically sucks out the nickel from the metal. Nickel is one of the most common causes of metal allergies. Please note: this process cannot remove all the nickel and a very small amount of people have reactions to 316LVM surgical steel.
