Full-frame 50mm macro lens and wide F2.8 max. aperture
This high-performance 50mm macro prime lens is the ideal focal length for most photographers from close-up macro shots to landscapes and portraits. The bright F2.8 maximum aperture delivers excellent low-light performance and control over depth of field for beautiful defocussed backgrounds.
Made for Macro and close focus
Get up close for macro and interesting shots with 6.25” (0.16m) minimum focusing distance and a 1:1 magnification.
7-blade circular aperture design produce beautiful bokeh
When changing your aperture to defocus the background, the background light sources appear blurred. While conventional aperture blades have flat sides creating unappealing polygonal shaped defocussed points of light, this ‘bokeh’ effect of the blurred background can be enhanced with circular aperture blades used in this lens.
ED glass element
Extra-low dispersion (ED) glass dramatically reduces axial chromatic aberration and provides superior contrast across the entire image, even at large aperture settings and close focusing distances.
Aspherical lens design
Field curvature is carefully corrected by aspherical lens design which dramatically reduces spherical aberration while also reducing lens size and weight. Specially shaped “aspherical” elements near the diaphragm restore alignment of light rays at the image plane, maintaining high sharpness and contrast even at maximum aperture and can also be used at other points in the optical path to reduce distortion.
Robust and reliable dust and moisture resistant design
Sealing at all joints minimizes the chance of dust and moisture intrusion for maximum reliability in the widest possible range of shooting conditions.
Comprehensive controls
A comprehensive selection of on-lens controls, including a focus-mode switch, a focus-range limiter and a focus hold button contribute to versatile operation and advanced macro shooting capabilities.
Focus-range limiter
This function allows you to set a limit on the focusing range which can save you time during autofocus (AF) operation as the lens will not ‘hunt’ through the entire focusing range. The focus range can be set to; Full (lens will use the full range to find focus), infinity to 0.3m (far) and 0.3m to 0.16m (near).
Focus hold button
Once you’ve adjusted focus to where you want it, pressing this button on the lens barrel will keep the lens locked to that focusing distance which is also convenient for holding focus while recomposing. The preview function can also be assigned to this button through the camera’s custom settings.
Focus mode switch
An AF/MF focus mode switch on the lens allows fast and easy selection of auto and manual focus without having to take your eye off your subject or having to go into menus.
Macro convenience
Magnification and distance scales enhance convenience with precise magnification and distance indications on the lens that can be an important aid for macro photography.
Small, lightweight and versatile
The compact (2.78”) and lightweight (8.3 oz.) design means you can always carry this lens with you, while the 50mm focal range and fast F2.8 aperture is perfect for scenery and portraits as well as macro shots.
